Favourite thing to do in my job: Programming
I like sports (yes, even chess - so stereotypical)!
I love playing (and watching) loads of sports, including tennis, cricket, football…and CHESS! I try to learn as many programming languages in my spare time, it really does keep my brain engaged…
As a data scientist, I sift through masses of data to make sure it is accurate and complete! This ensures that all databases are correct for the given purpose, which helps people to make better decisions. After all, if your jam jar was labelled strawberry but was actually blackcurrant, that inaccurate labelling is probably going to make you very cross!
My Typical Day
Doing lots of calculations...
I go in, switch on my computer, and then start to sift through lots and lots of databases. I write computer code to make my job easier.
What I'd do with the prize money
Engaging local schools with new and interesting scientific research
With the £500, I will fund a start up project in local communities to engage schools with the latest happenings in science. Science is often inaccessible but it is ever-developing. The public deserves to know what developments are happening in an engaging manner! I will make this happen on a local scale.
