When you travel around the world to beautiful places and see the amazing creatures that live there you are inspired to try and protect these environments so they are not damaged by human activities but a lot of the work that we do aroud air pollution is for protecting human health, particularly in large towns and cities.

Travelling the world definitely did make me want to work on pollution! There are many places that are covered in rubbish and dirt – it frustrates me to no end to see the piles of rubbish. Also some countries I’ve visited have had cities where the air is unbreathable! It’s sad to see that.

Well, I DO work on pollution. I think my attraction to pollution likely comes from the fact I grew up in Staten Island, New York, which is where the largest landfill in the world was located (at the time). So, I grew up knowing about pollution in a very personal way, perhaps that’s why I always felt it was important and was so driven to do something about it?

Seeing how countries are tackling the causes of pollution and seeing the benefits certainly made me think change is possible. My ability to explore is sadly limited by how bad flights are for the environment so I am practising what I preach and exploring countries by train.

I don’t directly work on pollution, but seeing how amazing the world is makes me want to work to protect it.
