The approach to science in the UK and America is largely the same–the use of the scientific method. However, the priorities for what kind of science gets done is, in large part, set nationally. For example, there might be more genetically modified food crop research happening in the US because that is a country where such crops can be grown and sold; whereas this kind of research might be discouraged in the UK as there are no GM crops sold in Europe (as far as I know). There are many such examples of different national priorities: stem cell research, climate change, etc.
