Renewable energy may be made from clean sources but the equipment needed to capture it has to be manufactured somewhere so there will be emissions embedded in producing the construction materials and then transporting them. A lot of people will also argue that wind turbines are unsightly and noisy and along with solar farms are a blight on our landscape. It is really important that we continue to move towards renewable or green energy sources rather than relying on more polluting fossils fuels.

Renewable energy sources have far less wastage, but there is still some level of usage of non-renewable sources (at the moment) in constructing the devices that extract the energy. For example, wind farms use tall steel based structures, which are machined in huge factories. The factories use non-renewable sources of energy. So in a very indirect way, yes. However, the overall benefit from using these sources of energy FAR outweighs this very small initial cost.

They can do. Wind turbines can be a problem for many bird and bat species if they are placed without thought to migration routes or places where birds and bats feed. The blades on the turbines can kill and injure animals if they get caught up in them (it’s a really bad problem in Europe with large bird species like vultures). Despite this though, it’s vital that we start moving away from fossil fuels and into renewable energy, we just need to give thought to when and where these projects take place.
