I started working at the university in 1996 but I was studying science subjects a long time before that and asking questions that no-one knew the answers to so I guess you could say I was a scientist from quite an early age.

I’ve seen myself as being a scientist since 1997, when I started my PhD. However, in hindsight, I think anyone can be a scientist. You are a scientist if you are curious and choose to test your theory about how the world works. It can be super simple tests–like which window in my house does a particular houseplant prefer to grow. Easy stuff–but it is science! If we use that definition of a scientist, I was probably a scientist from the time I was 13 or so. Maybe when I started playing with model rockets. Great fun if you’ve never tried!

I’d say everyone is born a scientist – so the same as you “all my life”! Though my “all my life” is probably a bit longer than yours currently… 🙂

I loved science from a really young age, and was doing mini experiments when I was at school… but officially I’d probably say from when I started my PhD in 2007. I started working for a university in 2012 and I love my job 🙂
