I think I was just always interested, I can’t remember a eureka moment.

I think just being fascinated with the natural world around us and trying to understand why it is the way it is probably first got me interested in science

Curiosity, and wanting to know more! As a child I used to play with (and break) pretty much everything I got my hands on!

My entry to the world of science seems silly, but when I returned to University to study a new subject (horticulture), I went to a good teaching university (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, in California) and took some basic chemistry and biology classes. I did really well in them and thought I would keep going until it got too hard to continue…and I just kept going because I really enjoyed it! Shortly after starting my new studies I was introduced to new areas of science which excited me and I was keen to pursue them: phytoremediation. Follow what you love to do…simple.

I always had questions about the way the world worked when I was a kid, and I was really inspired by some amazing scientists like Dian Fossey who worked with mountain gorillas in Rwanda. I enjoyed biology at school, and just kept going with it until I got to university and beyond.
