I’ve always been fascinated in the natural world and why things end up the way they are so having a job in science simply allows me to think about all those unanswered questions and get paid for it!

I asked lots of questions as a child, and was really interested in animals and wildlife. I enjoyed studying biology in school, but it was when I went to university that I really got to study things I loved (like animal behaviour and ecology). I worked really hard there, studying and volunteering for extra experience, and I’m lucky enough now to have a career I love.

I was always naturally curious about the world around me. Science was a field that used this curiosity and paved an avenue for me to use it in a good way (rather than to keep breaking things!) It was the best decision in my life to go down this route. There’s so much to discover, so my advice to anyone considering to take science as a career is to remain open minded and keep your options open. And that science happens in many ways, not just in a lab!

A career in science requires curiosity and the desire to learn. I had a fairly random road to get to where I am, but, fundamentally, I followed the path which satisfied my curiosity and opportunities to learn.

I have always been interesting in solving problems so being a scientist always seemed like a great way to do it
